MARITIME SECURITY COOPERATION ADVISORY GROUP OF THE COUNCIL FOR SECURITY COOPERATION IN ASIA-PACIFIC

Vice Admiral Das retired from the Indian Navy in March 1998 as Commander-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command, with a responsibility of over 25,000 personnel. His senior assignments included command of the Eastern Fleet, Fortress Commander, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Director General, Defence Planning Staff.

Under his command, he coordinated and presided over the Eastern Naval Forces during the MILAN multinational exercises with regional navies. He also has extensive experience with the Indian Navy’s bilateral engagements with the United States, France, and Australia. Admiral Das writes regularly on security matters and is a visiting speaker at several military colleges of the Indian Armed Forces.

He is Co-Chair of the Maritime Security Group of the Council for Security Cooperation in Asia-Pacific (CSCAP) and serves on the Governing Councils of the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses, and the United Service Institution, two of the best known Indian think tanks on security issues.
